Toubkal Trek for the Trust

Matthew Footman is raising money for Cricketers' Trust Limited

Toubkal Trek for the Trust · 22 October 2025

The Cricketers’ Trust is looking to raise much needed funds with a once in a lifetime trek in North Africa.

Story

Following my second ACL reconstruction on my left knee at the end of March this year, and never being one to do things the easy way, I have, in my infinite wisdom, decided to trek up North Africa’s highest mountain, Mount Toubkal, in October and raise money for charity as part of my rehab.

Admittedly, I am not physically ready yet as I am only 6 months into 10 months of rehab but I have the motivation to push on and get ready for the challenge ahead of a 2-day trek up a 4167m lump of rock. This will be after only 7 months of rehab and just to add to the fun, the last time I was this high up a mountain I had altitude sickness.

What can possibly go wrong!!

The reason for this possible madness is to raise money and support the wonderful work of the Cricketers Trust.

The Trust was created to support the life-long health and wellbeing of past and present cricketers and their immediate families. As part of professional cricket’s leading charity, the Trust funds life-changing assistance through expert advice, rehabilitation programmes and a dedicated 24-hour Confidential Helpline, all vital services that is hikers will be using as inspiration throughout three day adventure.

An example of the support they provide was last year, when the Trust helped former England and Gloucestershire bowler David ‘Syd’ Lawrence, following his diagnosis with motor neurone disease, by helping to fund a support chair and renovations to the family home.

To further help and support this wonderful work I am looking to raise £2000 on my North African escapade. Please support me and this amazing charity., if you can. Any donations, big or small, will be greatly appreciated!

Don’t forget to check Gift Aid!

Many thanks in advance

Matt
