The Edale Skyline for Birmingham Mind
On 19th September I'm walking the Edale Skyline: 32km across the Peak District, over Kinder Scout, Mam Tor and Lose Hill, with around 1,100 metres of ascent. It's a tough walk, and I hope I'm up to it.
I'm doing it for Birmingham Mind. They run the helpline, the wellbeing hubs, the supported accommodation and the crisis support that people across Birmingham and Solihull rely on when things become difficult.
Anyone who has spent time in criminal practice knows how destructive unaddressed mental ill health can be to relationships and to communities, and how much difference the right support at the right time makes. I also know, as a lawyer, how heavily the pressures of professional life can weigh, and how hard it can be to admit that something is wrong and to ask for help.
Birmingham Mind does that work here every day. It is affiliated to the national charity, Mind, but it is an independent local charity with a small team, and it relies on the support of people in this city to keep its services running.
The suggested fundraising target for this walk is £150. I'd like to do considerably better. Everything given goes straight to Birmingham Mind, and if you're a UK taxpayer please tick Gift Aid: it adds 25% at no cost to you.
Thank you.
