Hi Everyone!

My name is Matt, i'm a trainee Trauma & Orthopaedic surgeon from London, with a passion for Global Orthopaedic Surgery! I'm cycling from Paris to Geneva, alongside some other amazing individuals, to raise money for the charity International Disaster & Emergency Aid with Long-term Support (IDEALS - https://www.ideals.org.uk/).

IDEALS is a charity that is close to my heart, having spent time with the team in Gaza and seen the amazing work that they do alongside our incredible Palestinian colleagues! The charity is focused on supporting the development of surgical services to provide care to those suffering from traumatic injuries.

Since October of 2023, the war in Gaza has had an immeasurable impact on the civilian population. Over 40,000 people have lost their lives, 9 in 10 homes have been damaged or destroyed, and children have not had access to formal education for a year.

There have been 654 attacks on healthcare facilities since the beginning of the conflict, and more than 1000 healthcare workers have been killed. Under half of the 36 hospitals are 'partially' functioning, the remainder are completely inoperable. This will have substantial ramifications for the future health of the population, and is acutely compounding the affects of the war.

The money raised will go towards delivering and expanding urgently needed surgical services, for the large number of individuals suffering from the trauma of war.
