Trauma Surgery in Gaza – Responding to the Current Crisis and Building for the Future

Organised by IDEALS

Since the war in Gaza began we have been sending surgical teams there to support local colleagues with the emergency care of survivors of major trauma, predominantly blast and crush injuries. We urgently need funds to continue this lifesaving work.

IDEALS (International Disaster and Emergency Aid with Long-term Support) is currently raising funds to support our emergency response in Gaza; getting surgical teams and critical medical supplies to those hospitals caring for patients with life-threatening and disabling injuries.

Story

Ahmed, the young man in the photo, was staying in a shelter in Gaza, supposedly a safe place, when it was shelled. The blast killed all other members of his immediate family, and Ahmed lay in the rubble for four days before he was found. He suffered a traumatic amputation of his left leg and major damage to his right foot. He was operated on and followed up by our team, showing incredible courage and resilience to begin his recovery; still with hope for the future, for Gaza and himself.
