Story

My dad and I have decided to take on an exciting but daunting challenge of walking 100km over 2 days along the Jurassic coast in Dorset on 18th and 19th May. Sure to be gruelling challenge but beautifully scenic, the 62 mile walk will take us along the rugged coast with steep inclines, ascending over 2300m equivalent to climbing both Ben Nevis and Snowdon.

We are taking on this ultra challenge in aid of SSNAP (Supporting Sick Newborns and their Parents), that was a vital support to my parents and i when I was born.

Over 30 years ago in the John Radcliffe hospital in Oxford, I was born 12 weeks prematurely, weighing just 1Ib 1oz or half a bag of sugar. I spent 12 weeks in an incubator and was only given a 5% chance of living. SSNAP were there when my parents and I needed them the most.

We would love to give back to this charity that continues to provide vital assistance to families with sick and pre-term babies. SSNAP's dedication extends beyond emotional support; they also fund crucial equipment and facilitate life-changing research and training to parents on how to care for their child at home.

Your generous contribution will enable SSNAP to make a meaningful impact on the lives of families facing similar challenges.

Thank very much, it will be a great encouragement know that money is being raised for such an amazing charity!

In the UK, 1 in 10 babies need specialist care at birth. SSNAP supports sick & premature babies and their families in the Newborn Care Unit at the John Radcliffe Hospital. Imagine your newborn baby needing specialist care at birth. Instead of those very special days getting to know your baby as a family, you’re catapulted into an unfamiliar world of incubators, wires, medical tests and interventions. While your baby has specialist treatment, we provide emotional and practical support to help you through the trauma & upheaval. We’re there to help families cope, and provide state-of-the-art medical equipment and nursing expertise that could save babies lives.
