Story
After not being able to travel to the West Bank for three years, I am excited to say I will be taking out a team to run the Palestine Marathon/ Half!
The Palestine Marathon was founded by a network of runners called Right To Movement, to demand their freedom of movement and raise awareness around the restrictions on movement for Palestinians in the West Bank. As there are not 26 miles of contiguous Palestinian state, the route starts in Manger Square, runs 6.5 miles to the edge of the Palestinian-controlled areas, hits the Separation Wall (that runs along the West Bank) and then we turn back to complete the half marathon.
After some achilles issues, I'll be sticking to the half this time, but would love you to support Amos' work in Palestine.
Amos Trust, which is the small creative human rights organisation that I work for, has been working in the West Bank and Gaza for over 30 years. I am fundraising for our partners in the West Bank, who are working to support communities, particularly those in area C of the West Bank, who are facing home demolitions, land confiscations and settler violence. Amos partners Holy Land Trust and HIRN are working with communities to legally challenge demolition orders, rebuild homes and provide temporary caravans for families. Through our fundraising, we are also covering the entry fee so that 100 people from these communities can take part in the Palestine Marathon family 5km run. We will be visiting some of these communities during our trip to the West Bank.
I am also supporting Amos Trust’s work in Gaza, specifically their trauma work with families with their partner DSPR. UNICEF estimates over one million children in Gaza are deeply traumatised. DSPR’s trauma programmes help families cope, lower stress and begin to heal. With your help, they can expand this vital work and provide in-depth therapy to those who need it most. I had the privilege of spending December 2024 touring around the UK with Nader, who leads up DSPRs incredible and challenging work in Gaza.
