Story
Amos Trust are excited to say that for the first time in three years, we will be taking out a team to run the Palestine Marathon/ Half this April.
The Palestine Marathon was founded by a network of runners called Right To Movement, to demand their freedom of movement and raise awareness around the restrictions on movement for Palestinians in the West Bank. As there are not 26 miles of contiguous Palestinian state, the route starts in Manger Square, runs 6.5 miles to the edge of the Palestinian-controlled areas, hits the Separation Wall (that runs along the West Bank) and then we turn back to complete the half marathon. The marathon has been postponed every year since 2023 due to the Gaza genocide, but this year it is due to take place again.
Amos Trust is a small creative human rights organisation that has been working in the West Bank and Gaza for over 30 years. Team Amos are fundraising for their partners in the West Bank, who are working to support communities, particularly those in area C of the West Bank, who are facing home demolitions, land confiscations and settler violence. Amos partners Holy Land Trust and HIRN are working with communities to legally challenge demolition orders, rebuild homes and provide temporary caravans for families. Through our fundraising, we are also covering the entry fee so that 100 people from these communities can take part in the Palestine Marathon family 5km run. We will be visiting some of these communities during our trip to the West Bank.
Team Amos are also supporting Amos Trust’s work in Gaza, specifically their trauma work with families with their partner DSPR. UNICEF estimates over one million children in Gaza are deeply traumatised. DSPR’s trauma programmes help families cope, lower stress and begin to heal. With your help, they can expand this vital work and provide in-depth therapy to those who need it most.
