*** I Did It! ***
A huge thank you to Sue, Phil, Lindsey, Graham, Lesley, Gill and Barry who supported me on the day, and to Jez, my pilot, and everyone at the Wing Walk Company who made my day so memorable and who supported me so well as a blind person. I'll be returning one day, I have no doubt!
*** We have a Winner! ***
Congratulations to Kate who chose the name Mel for the future guide dog puppy whose name was voted for by my colleagues at Guide Dogs. thank you to everyone who suggested puppy names.
I remember when I was young, watching Blue Peter and seeing someone doing a wing walk. At the time I thought it would be an incredible thing to do, but something way out of my reach.
Around 40 years on and I've discovered that it is totally possible! So I've booked my place, Friday 8th August 2025 at Wickenby in Lincolnshire. I am unbelievably excited about it!
So, I'd like to take the opportunity to raise funds for Guide Dogs who have supported me for the last 36 years in the form of 7 beautiful dogs. the latest of whom is Elsa, a 7-year-old Golden Retriever/German Shepherd cross. In harness, Elsa is a true professional, very keen to please and very good at her job. Out of harness she is cheeky, fun-loving and a chancer, always wondering what she can get away with! I love her for all these reasons, and wouldn't be without her.
Almost two million people in the UK are living with sight loss that has a significant impact on their daily lives. Of those, around 180,000 rarely leave their homes alone and lead lonely, isolated lives.
Guide Dogs works for a world where people with sight loss are never left out of life, for a world where being blind or partially sighted is not what defines you. A world with enough support to make the challenges of sight loss no barrier to fulfilling hopes and dreams.
