The ability to get around is vital in order to live a full life yet thousands of people with sight loss never leave home alone. We empower visually impaired people to do that and rely on the support of the public to fund the guide dog service.

Story

I remember when I was young, watching Blue Peter and seeing someone doing a wing walk. At the time I thought it would be an incredible thing to do, but something way out of my reach.

Around 40 years on and I've discovered that it is totally possible! So I've booked my place, Friday 8th August 2025 at Wickenby in Lincolnshire. I am unbelievably excited about it!

So, I'd like to take the opportunity to raise funds for Guide Dogs who have supported me for the last 36 years in the form of 7 beautiful dogs. the latest of whom is Elsa, a 7-year-old Golden Retriever/German Shepherd cross. In harness, Elsa is a true professional, very keen to please and very good at her job. Out of harness she is cheeky, fun-loving and a chancer, always wondering what she can get away with! I love her for all these reasons, and wouldn't be without her.

If we reach the £5000 target, we will be able to name a guide dog puppy. So, if you have a suggestion for a puppy name, please put it in the message field with your donation. (If you have already donated and would like to suggest a name, please let me know.) After the wing walk I and some Guide Dogs colleagues will vote on all the suggestions received. The person whose name wins the vote will receive regular updates about the puppy they have named and will be able to follow his or her progress through puppyhood.

Almost two million people in the UK are living with sight loss that has a significant impact on their daily lives. Of those, around 180,000 rarely leave their homes alone and lead lonely, isolated lives.

Guide Dogs works for a world where people with sight loss are never left out of life, for a world where being blind or partially sighted is not what defines you. A world with enough support to make the challenges of sight loss no barrier to fulfilling hopes and dreams.
