If you Google "What is the most painful mental illness" it will come up with 100's of articles on Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD)
Borderline Personality Disorder also known as Emotionally Unstable Personality Disorder is a severe and often debilitating mental illness.
Those Diagnosed with BPD experience intense mood swings and feel uncertainty about how they see themselves.
You become easily overwhelmed and incapacitated by the intensity of your emotions, whether it is joy and elation or depression, anxiety and rage.
And are unable to manage these intense emotions in many cases resorting to harmful behaviour or activities
Your feelings toward others can change quickly and swing from extreme closeness to extreme dislike.
Studies show 75% of people with BPD will make at least one suicide attempt in their lifetime, and many will make multiple suicide attempts*
The Men's Advice Recovery Support (MARS) BPD Group are a lived experience self-help group for men who suffer from BPD
The group provides an opportunity for men with BPD to come together in a safe, supportive, and welcoming space. We meet weekly via Zoom to socialise, share experiences and offer support and encouragement to one another in a non-judgmental space
We also offer one-to-one support to our members outside of our regular meetings via Zoom or face-to-face at pre-agreed safe spaces, again to offer support through shared experience, encouragement and signposting.
MARS began in late 2021 and has recently become a registered group with Rethink Mental Illness, charity number 271028, however, we are financially independent and are responsible for our own fundraising and running costs
Though the majority of our members are based in Suffolk and Norfolk our membership and coverage are now expanding into other areas with regular attendees from Lancashire, Essex, Bedfordshire, London, and Glasgow.
Please help us in our efforts to raise awareness of this complex severe mental illness.
