Story
I have faced a lifetime of injuries, surgeries, and health challenges. Despite these obstacles, I have always managed to bounce back—exercising, competing in sports at a high level, working hard, and playing hard! However, over the past two years, my physical health has declined significantly. My pain levels have increased and my mobility has decreased, impacting not only me but also my loved ones deeply.
In November 2025, I was diagnosed with hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (hEDS). This diagnosis was long overdue, and every day I am learning more about this complex condition while supporting my loved ones on this journey of understanding. The information and support I have received from EDS UK (Ehlers-Danlos Support UK), a registered charity (number 1157027), has been invaluable. This incredible organization works tirelessly to improve the quality of life for people living with EDS and Hypermobility Spectrum Disorder (HSD). They are the largest UK charity dedicated exclusively to representing, supporting, advising, and informing those affected by these conditions as well as the medical professionals who care for them.

EDS and HSD are groups of 13 genetic connective tissue disorders that affect many systems in the body simultaneously. Symptoms include chronic pain, very loose joints prone to dislocation, fatigue, dizziness, palpitations, and digestive issues. Despite their complexity and impact on daily life, these syndromes often remain invisible disabilities—you can look perfectly well even on days when you feel unwell.
On Saturday 2 May 2026—during EDS and HSD Awareness Month—I will be walking the Wirral Way dressed in ZEBRA clobber as part of the annual EDS UK Dazzle Walk. This personal walk is my small contribution to raising awareness and funds for this vital cause. My fundraising target is £200.
If you can spare a few pennies to support EDS UK’s work or if you would like to join me for part or all of the walk to give me that extra boost of encouragement—it would mean the world! Together we can help improve lives affected by these challenging conditions.
