Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page in memory of Roger Lucy and supporting the AMMF Charity

I am taking part in the European Wanderers ‘Milan to Innsbruck’ Charity Bike Ride in June 2024. The ride covers 400 miles over a four-day bike ride from the capital of Italy, up the shores of Lake Como and then into the Dolomites and Alpine mountains of Italy and Austria. The aim of the team is to raise a combined minimum total of £10,000 for 4 different charities. The entire event is fully funded by the individual riders and our valued sponsor AVI (Asset Value Investors), so all of the money raised in sponsorship goes to our chosen charities - not towards any costs.

My chosen charity for the ride is the AMMF which is concerned with a specific type of liver cancer - bile duct cancer, providing awareness and funding vital research. I am riding in memory of a dear and close friend and colleague, Roger Lucy who lost a short battle with this cancer last year and which he bravely faced with his usual good humour. I worked alongside Roger for 23yrs out of his 49yrs of service with Davies Turner - he was a very special person, delightful and always entertaining - he made you feel better simply by meeting him - his smile, his laugh, intelligence and thoughtfulness are greatly missed by all whose lives he touched - an amazing man who now lives on through his loving family and grandchildren.

The grand départ is from Milan, and the first day of riding begins along the picturesque Lake Como (110 miles and over 8,000 ft of climbing). On day two we hit the bucket-list climb of the Stelvio Pass (100 miles and over 8,600ft of climbing). This will have warmed us up nicely for day three when we ride the Sellaronda (100 miles and 15,400ft of climbing). Over those first three days alone we will have climbed more than the height of Mt. Everest and covered some 310 miles. The fourth and final day of the ride takes us north along amazing cycle routes towards a well earned rest in Innsbruck - phew ! - Oh, and maybe the odd beer :)
