Story
On Saturday 20 June 2026, our team will be taking on the 35km Pilgrims Way Challenge, walking from Dover to Canterbury in support of Pilgrims Hospices, a charity that provides vital care for people living with life-limiting illness across east Kent.
I’m taking on this challenge in memory of my mother-in-law, Kay, who was a much loved Mum, Nanny, auntie, sister and friend. She was known to her grandchildren as the “laughing nanny”, her infectious laugh could light up a room, and she always had time for everyone. She is deeply missed by all of us, and her kindness, strength and love continue to inspire us every day. I know she would be right there cheering me on every step of the way.
I’m also dedicating this walk to my Dad, who is living with Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (IPF), a life-limiting condition.
He is my best friend and truly the happiest person I know. The courage and strength he shows every day are incredible. Even while facing the uncertainty that comes with this illness, he continues to bring humour, positivity and light to everyone around him.
He is my hero. Watching the way he faces each day with strength, resilience and a smile is something I will always admire.
This walk is for him too, and for every family facing similar challenges. I love him more than words can say.
Our team of walkers includes Nicki Lever, Matthew and Mel Westby, Daniel Sullivan, Chris Buckingham, Michele Hay, Hayley Mills, Rafael Oliveira, Dale Hayward, Kris Huntley, Chloe Stokes and Nadya Golubovas, all of whom are committing their time, energy and training to complete this challenging route together.
Hospice care touches so many lives. At some point, many of us, or someone we love, will need that kind of support. Pilgrims Hospices rely heavily on donations to continue providing that care, comfort and dignity when it matters most.
Every mile we walk and every pound we raise will help Pilgrims Hospices continue their compassionate work supporting patients and families when they need it most. With around 80% of their funding coming from voluntary donations, the money raised through this challenge will make a genuine, tangible difference.
If you’re able to support us, even a small donation like £1 can make a real difference. We’d be incredibly grateful for anything you can give, or even just sharing our page to help spread the word.
Thank you for taking the time to read this and for helping us support such an important cause.
I’ve also shared some of the training walks I’ve been doing in the gallery.
