Story
Hi everyone,
I’m running the Dubai half marathon on 8th Feb 2026 with my brother (flights have been funded by family).
I’m running this in for “Bury Cancer support Centre”.
This is a charity very close to my heart, they have supported my mum after beating cancer twice-what a warrior!! They offer so much support for those not only with with cancer but those after by cancer..
The support Center has also been there in times of need for my friends who have lost their life to cancer and those who have lost love ones to cancer.
Please if you can help support this very worth while cause, even if it’s £1 it all adds up!
Thank you for reading and more importantly thank you for supporting myself and Bury Cancer Support!!
Please see below all about the charity-who they are and what they do-#notallsuperheroswearcapes
Lots of love

BURY CANCER SUPPORT CENTRE - WHO WE ARE
For over 23 years, Bury Cancer Support Centre has been a lifeline to those who need it most across Bury and Greater Manchester. We offer individually tailored, meaningful support to anyone affected by cancer including carers and anyone bereaved by cancer. We currently have 427 registered users and deliver an average of 365 episodes of support each month.
We have no postcode requirement. You can access the services of the Centre wherever you live.
We receive no regular NHS or government funding and rely entirely on grants, donations, and community fundraising. Our support is free at the point of access, but donations are welcomed where appropriate.
OUR CURRENT CHALLENGE
It is with sadness we have to report that the Centre is currently experiencing a serious shortfall in funding. Rising costs and reduced funding opportunities mean we are at risk of having to reduce the support we provide.
We need your help to raise £200,000 over the next year so we can continue offering free, professional support to anyone who needs us.
We are doing all we can to safeguard the future of the Centre through active fundraising, applications to charitable trusts, and community engagement. With continued generosity and support, we believe this vital work can be sustained, ensuring the Centre remains by the side of everyone who needs us.
WHAT WE OFFER
We provide a wide range of professional and holistic services under one roof, including:
• Initial and ongoing assessments from one of our experienced Key Workers (with a nursing background).
• A team of Counsellors, a Psychological Support Worker, and an Art Psychotherapist delivering tailored emotional and therapeutic support.
• A team of Complementary Therapists providing treatments that ease cancer related symptoms and side effects and improve wellbeing
• Sound Bath, Relaxation & Gentle Exercise to improve resilience.
• Walking group & drop-in café to reduce loneliness and build connections.
• Bereavement Support Group for safe, structured care after loss.
• A team of dedicated professionals offering individually tailored programmes of care.
• Trustees and Volunteers who work tirelessly to support the Centre’s mission.
WHO WE SUPPORT
• People living with cancer, their families, carers and those bereaved by cancer.
• Many of our beneficiaries are aged 65+, reflecting local demographics and higher cancer incidence in later life.
• Our drop-in model ensures we reach people who may otherwise remain unsupported or isolated.
WHY WE ARE NEEDED
• 1 in 2 people in the UK will face a cancer diagnosis in their lifetime (CRUK).
• Cancer incidence in Greater Manchester is above the national average, particularly among older adults.
• NHS care focuses on treatment, but there is a critical gap in emotional, social and holistic support.
• Our Centre bridges this gap, offering a lifeline of professional care that complements medical treatment.
HOW YOUR SUPPORT MAKES A DIFFERENCE
Every donation has a direct impact:
• £15 sponsors one hour of face-to-face Counselling
• £15 sponsors one hour of Complementary Therapies to ease side effects of treatment
• £30 sponsors a group support session such as:
• Bereavement support
• Psychological support
• Art Psychotherapy
• Relaxation and Sound Bath sessions
