Story
Girls in Sport works in Sierra Leone where due to poverty, disease epidemics, environmental disasters and poor infrastructure, many talented young people are unable to access opportunities to thrive. They can be left vulnerable, on the streets and exposed to harms such as sexual exploitation, teenage pregnancy, and abuse. Girls, in particular, are at risk of missing out on healthy and enriching development in order to take over care-giving duties, and are often burdened with the responsibility to earn a living to support dependents.
Girls in Sport works in development and post-crisis settings with some of the most vulnerable communities in the world. They provide equality of access to sport and enrichment to close the gap in gender. Girls in Sport wants to see an end to harms like child exploitation, sexual abuse, teenage pregnancy, early marriage and FGM. They work from the grass-roots enabling wider outcomes in communities.
