We are running inflatable 5K on September 13th to raise money for Upbeat Communities!

Many refugees and asylum seekers have been forced to flee war, persecution and violence. Arriving in the UK, they often face huge challenges- including trauma, language barriers, isolation and even homelessness.

Upbeat Communities provides a welcoming community for refugees and asylum seekers. It offers free English classes, free lunch, temporary accommodation, and more to help people rebuild their lives in the UK.

I am Momoyo and work as a catering coordinator at Upbeat. Each week, I plan the menu, order ingredients and oversee our kitchen-working alongside volunteers with lived experience seeking asylum.

Back in Japan, I didn't know much about refugees. But since moving to the UK, I have made many friends from refugee backgrounds, and I have seen how important a warm welcome can be.

Through food, I try to create a space where people feel safe, valued and at home-even far from home.
