Story

On my big birthday, instead of giving me a gift, please donate to the Marine Conservation Society. After all I already have I have everything I need

I thought long and hard about which charity I would support in the year of my Big Birthday, and I chose the Marine Conservation Society, because cleaning up the sea, protecting its ability to absorb carbon from the atmosphere, as well as protecting the plants and creatures that live there are things that are really important to me.

The cause being promoted through Just Giving at the moment is the Marine Conservation Society's Plastic Challenge this July. This is what they say:

"Plastic bags, cutlery and food wrappers have a lifespan of just minutes but often end up in our rivers and seas. Every year 11 million tonnes of plastic are dumped in the worlds oceans, causing devastating harm to wildlife, polluting our water with chemicals and breaking down into microplastics that enter into our food chain.

We all have a part to play in cutting back on single-use plastic and changing our throwaway culture. When you refuse to reuse, it's the ocean you abuse".
