Nadeem's fundraiser for Retina UK

Cycling from York to Lincoln and back to York is a distance of 262km or 162.8mi, something I have never even thought I could possibly do on a tandem.
My name is Nadeem Mughal and at the age of 14 I became registered blind with an eye condition called Retinitis Pigmentosa. This affects me on a daily basis as I have very little vision. I have tunnel vision, blurred vision, and night blindness. I am unable to read any kind of printed material.
I attended a school for disabled children before attending college for Visually Impaired students in Birmingham and The Royal National College for the Blind in Hereford. I thought being visually impaired would stop me from achieving my dreams of taking part in any sporting activities, however I’ve managed to play cricket and VI tennis, rowed on the River Wear and taken part in archery. I have also regularly ridden my track tandem at Derby velodrome and my road tandem around the Middlesborough area.
With the support of family and friends I’m living my dream and it feels fantastic.
So, if you have a dream, don’t just dream it - turn your dreams into reality!
On Saturday 31 May I’ll be taking part in a cycling event called Lincoln 262 - a bike ride from York to Lincoln and back to York, all in a single day.
The reason I have chosen this particular event is partly because it is a bigger challenge than I’ve managed before, but mainly to try and raise vital funds for an amazing charity that is close to my heart - Retina UK. The money raised from the event will be going towards gaining a better understanding of and developing a treatment for Retinitis Pigmentosa, the eye condition I have.
With Alex Cook piloting me on my tandem, I will be taking part in a 262km charity bike ride. My pilot for this event will be Alex Cook, who has this to say about himself:
I've been riding bikes in some form since I was little - sometimes just for getting around, other times for the pure enjoyment, and most recently more competitively. I've also been piloting tandem bicycles on the velodrome for a few years, including for Nadeem, and more recently a few times on the road. I like riding long distances but doing them on a tandem is an additional challenge and one I'm happy to take on with Nadeem, especially to raise money for such a good cause.
