On Saturday 31 May. With Alex Cook piloting me on my tandem, I will be taking part in a 262km charity bike ride. This bike ride will be in memory for my two uncles, Mohammed Afzal Mughal and Mohammed Tariq Mughal from my mum’s side of the family, who sadly died from pancreatic Cancer and Bashira Mughal one of my aunties from my dad’s side of the family, who sadly died from Breast Cancer.
“Inna Lillahi wa inna ilaihi raji’un,”
we belong to Allah and will ultimately return to Him.
“May Allah grant them Jannah (Paradise) Ameen.”
The reason I have chosen this particular event is partly because it is a bigger challenge than I’ve managed before, but mainly to try and raise vital funds for two amazing charities that are close to my heart - Cancer Research UK and Retina UK. The funds raised for both charities will be going towards gaining a better understanding of and developing a treatment for Cancer as well as Retinitis Pigmentosa, the eye condition I have.
If possible, I would like to try and raise equal amounts of funds for both charities.
Cycling from York to Lincoln and back to York is a distance of 262km or 162.8mi, something I have never even thought I could possibly do.
My pilot for this event will be Alex Cook, who has this to say about himself:
I've been riding bikes in some form since I was little - sometimes just for getting around, other times for the pure enjoyment, and most recently more competitively. I've also been piloting tandem bicycles on the velodrome for a few years, including for Nadeem, and more recently a few times on the road. I like riding long distances but doing them on a tandem is an additional challenge and one I'm happy to take on with Nadeem, especially to raise money for such a good cause.
