The Welsh 3000s is a long-distance walking challenge in Snowdonia taking place in June 2023. Participants are raising money for community-based mental health projects.

Story

Dominic Beer, my husband and the quiet champion of people with severe mental illness, left us 10 years ago on 19th April. I'm raising money for the Beer Harris Memorial Trust to honour his desire that people with severe mental illness should be treated with respect and compassion, listened to, and be included in the life of community wherever possible. Projects supported by the BHMT have those same aims and values.

So this time I'm REALLY putting myself through it!! The Welsh 3000s is a long-distance 50k walking challenge, encompassing fifteen 3000ft mountains across Snowdonia (Eryri in Welsh) with 3,625m of ascent to be completed within 24 hours. Crazy. We start at 4am in the morning and the route passes through three distinct mountain ranges, the Snowdon Massif, The Glyderau, and The Carneddau. It includes scrambling and hiking and my biggest challenge will be the downhills.. (60 y.o. knees!!)

This scares me far more than the Tris, The London Marathon or any other challenges I've ever undertaken! Mental toughness is as important as physical toughness and your support will be crucial to my being able to get anywhere near the finish.

So please be as generous as you can :-) I am so grateful for my friends, family, health and strength. Lets spread the love xxx
