Cycling 160 miles in 1 month for GSD Welfare Fund · 24 June 2024

The German Shepherd Dog Welfare Fund is a charity that rescues, cares for and rehomes vulnerable German Shepherds. Established since 1975, it was the first German Shepherd Dog breed only rescue to be formed in the UK. Many of the dogs that come into our care have behavioural issues and we do our best to rehabilitate them so they can find a loving home. Some come to us with ongoing illnesses. We do not discriminate against these dogs, in fact, we pledge to pay for their medication for the rest of their life. Since the inception, The German Shepherd Dog Welfare Fund have provided caring and suitable homes for over 9,000 German Shepherd Dogs to the present day. The charity is made up of a small dedicated team of volunteers. The German Shepherd Welfare Fund receive no government funding and rely solely on the generosity of individuals.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I am raising money for a cause which is close to my heart - GSD Welfare Fund. Some of you may know our Susie, who we adopted through GSD Welfare Fund, they have over 100 German Shepherds in their care, 35 - 40 of which are permanent residents and will not be rehomed. The charity is run by volunteers - some of whom dedicate their whole lives to the dogs they care for. Some of the dogs are housed in kennels simply due to the sheer volume since Covid - imagine the cost of boarding for those dogs each month! Let me also tell you, the kennels chosen are done so after thorough research and discussion to ensure the dogs are provided with the best care possible. Every effort is made to ensure that the time the dogs spend in rescue is enjoyable for them and they are cared for as best they possibly can be. Their welfare in all situations is the number 1 priority!

I plan to cycle 160 miles over the period of a month from 24th June to 23rd July to raise money for an amazing cause! As some of you might know, I have Osteoarthritis in both knees which can make exercising quite difficult. A lovely friend of mine introduced me to the electric pedal assist bike and since being able to get one at the beginning of the year, it has been a game changer for me. For those who don't know the world of electric bikes, let me just confirm I do still have to pedal and do the work but the motor assists me in actually being able to pedal (something I really struggle with on a manual bike).

Any amount you can spare no matter how small would be so appreciated by me, the dogs and the charity - they run on donations alone!
