Story
On Sunday 26th April 2026, I am honoured to be running the London Marathon for The Lily Foundation. This will be a bucket list moment and my biggest running challenge to date.
I am running in memory of the beautiful Lacey Pearl Leggett. My daughter Ava is in the same class as Lacey’s brother Stanley.
Lacey was diagnosed with Mitochondrial depletion disease within her TK2 Gene. This weakens the muscles and eventually leads to organ failure, and heartbreakingly, Lacey passed away on 14th February 2014 at just 2 years of age.
Lacey was never able to walk, eat or talk but she was a very intelligent little girl, and princess to her family, who made everyone she met smile. She could communicate by nodding, pointing, laughing, smiling, crying and doing her famous body dance. She taught everyone about love, kindness and understanding.
In her beautiful memory, together with the Leggett family, I want to help make a difference to all those affected by Mito, giving them support, understanding and ultimately a cure.
I’m taking on the London Marathon to help drive awareness and raise vital funds for The Lily Foundation, a charity that continues to support the Leggett family.
Every other day in the UK, a baby is born who may develop serious mitochondrial disease, yet currently there is no cure. Together with The Lily Foundation we can change this.
