Naturetrek's Venezuela Earthquake Appeal for the Disasters Emergency Committee

Naturetrek Wildlife Holidays is raising money for Disasters Emergency Committee
Two catastrophic earthquakes have hit Venezuela. Buildings were reduced to rubble in minutes. Now the survivors urgently need support. Please donate now.

Story

On 24th June, two powerful earthquakes hit northern and central Venezuela within seconds of each other, leaving in their wake a death toll now nearing 3,500 (and rising daily), with more than 16,000 injured. Countless more are missing or homeless, and the UN estimates that millions of people have been affected.

Following years of poverty, political instability and civil unrest, this disaster has added greatly to the challenges already faced by many communities across Venezuela, and our thoughts are with all those affected. Although Naturetrek has not been able to operate any wildlife tours in Venezuela for many years on account of the country's instability and resultant FCDO travel advice, up until 2012 it was amongst our most popular and rewarding destinations. Hundreds of Naturetrek clients enjoyed such sites as Henri Pittier National Park, the high Andes around Merida, the Llanos (especially the eco-ranch, Hato Piñero), and the Tepuis and Angel Falls. As a result, many of you have contacted us to ask after our guides, such as Cecilia Herrera (who guided many of our groups) and Pepe Clavijo. Thankfully, both of them are well.

If you, like us, would like to help those who have lost loved ones, homes and livelihoods, please consider donating to the Disaster Emergency Committee's Venezuela Earthquake Appeal. Naturetrek will match all donations made to our "Naturetrek Venezuela Earthquake Appeal" up to a total of £10,000, hoping that we can jointly raise £20,000 or more together. Thank you for helping us to support communities across Venezuela that have been devastated by these earthquakes.
