Story
We are fundraising for the Maternity Bereavement Suite at the James Cook University Hospital this Christmas. We have spoken to Santa and he has supplied us with his Naughty Elf to visit some businesses, schools and nurseries in Teesside, checking that everyone is preparing for Christmas and he will be fundraising along the way. We have some slots available on Friday 2nd December for the Elf to come and visit you, please contact us for more information.
We heard that the hospital charity are £5,000 off their target for their new bereavement suite, and wanted to help.
There are approximately 4 families per week, who could be supported by the build of the new bereavement room on Teesside.
Detailed architectural plans have been designed along with the input of our bereavement Midwifery team & Unit manager. The plans have been shared & discussed with bereaved parents who have used the current facilities.
The current room used as a bereavement suite is located on the Central Delivery Unit; meaning bereaved parents use the same facilities, entrance / exit as the ladies labouring & families leaving the hospitals with their new babies. Currently the room is a standard clinical room.
The new room will be soundproofed, meaning that bereaved parents will not be able to hear the other babies on the unit, or ladies in labour. There will also be a separate entrance and exit to the bereavement room, allowing families to leave the ward, avoiding the main area. It will be a room which is suitable to give birth in but can be quickly transformed to a non-clinical room, and a relaxing comfortable place for families to spend time together with their sleeping baby.
This room will be life changing for the patients; with the support of the specially trained bereavement midwives, it will allow them precious time to spend together as a family , creating lasting memories, whether that's bathing their baby, reading them a story, or creating keepsakes such as hand and footprints to take home.
The hospital charity are just under £5,000 from reaching their target to build this special suite, lets help them achieve this!
We would like to say special thanks to Busy Bees and Kids 1st nurseries in the local area. They are doing lots of fundraising to help us achieve this target. Your support means a lot to the charity. Thank You! X
