Story
Hello, my name is Neil Williams (sadly no relation to Shane Williams). I'm an aging cyclist from Abergavenny and I am taking part in a 100km Cycle ride from Cardiff to Llanelli to support Wales Air Ambulance Charity Challenge.
We have a great Air Ambulance shop in our local town where my wife volunteers every week.
Unlike most participants who will be clad in the latest Lycra astride bikes featuring in this years Tour de France. I shall be staying true to my era and riding a 1974 Dawes Galaxy (AKA the Big 'G'). It has a few minor upgrades but is complete with friction shifters, rim brakes, a 50-42 chainring and weighs in at a mighty 15kg or 33lb in old money. Carrying more spare parts than the Shimano neutral service I shall be attempting to get ‘The Big G’ around the route alongside the legend himself.
Any sponsorship gratefully received for a great cause.
Every year they need to raise £11.2m to keep the helicopters in the sky and rapid response vehicles on the road. The teams onboard, deliver advance critical care to patients across Wales 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Many thanks for the sponsorships already gifted and to answer some of the questions posted in the comments: yes, yes & yes.
To the questions on Whats ap: Yes I love my old bike and am a bit stuck in the past but I do embrace modern technology and also ride a carbon fibre Ebike.
