The centre is open to all with a proven need and is FREE to use. A dedicated team of volunteers ensure the centre is available for use 48 weeks a year. The aim of the Fort Centre is to provide people with special needs an opportunity to experience horse-riding which has been proven to benefit individual health and well-being. Fort Centre also provides a social setting for family and friends to come together in a welcoming environment. Riding for the Disabled Association is a voluntary cross-community charity with a strong commitment to improving the lives of children and adults with physical and mental disabilities. Our aim is straightforward:- to bring a spark in to the life of someone in need. At the Fort Centre, we have provided year-round horse-riding opportunities for children and adults with disabilities for over 35 years. Our service to helping others is simple but effective in that horse-riding develops self-confidence, responsibility and promotes teamwork and therapeutic exercise for riders who take part in activities at Fort Centre.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

This full beard removal is a silly bit of fun with the hopes of raising a few pounds for the continuation of the vital work performed by all the staff and volunteers at RDA Fort Centre in Maghera, providing horse and pony riding for people with special needs.

Additionally, given that I have had this beard for well over six years… This event will have the additional knock-on benefit of me being able to more comfortably eat soup again.

This event will take place on Sunday, July 13th 2025 in McKenna’s Bar in Maghera at halftime during the second of the All Ireland Senior Football Championship Semi Final matches. Feel free to come along for the match, for the show, and to watch me once again eat soup in public with joyful abandon.

p.s. To anyone I’ve met during my beard era, you’ll enjoy this especially. However weak you imagine my jawline is, I promise you it’s weaker.
