Since 2023 I've dedicated my time as a volunteer with Girlguiding Scotland, working with an amazing group of young girls aged 8-10 in the Brownies and teenagers in the Girl Guides.
The Challenge: This year, I've set myself a monumental challenge: to climb Mont Blanc via the Traversée Miage-Bionnassay - the Royale Route. This isn't just any climb; it's one of the most beautiful yet demanding ascents in the Alps, a true test of endurance, skill, and determination. Recognising the challenges and risks especially as I've never climbed at this altitude or even half of it before.. I've taken a crucial decision for safety and success—I will be accompanied by an experienced local guide: Sébastien Laurent. I am pushing my personal boundaries, but safety and ensuring I reach the summit for girls- remains my top priority. This sets an example we aim to provide for the Girl Guides: guiding them to reach their highest potential safely and responsibly.
The Cause: The funds raised through this climb will provide an unforgettable experience for a group of Girl Guides. What is GirlGuiding ? I best explain this to people by asking if they’ve ever heard of Bear Grylls because most people have and especially in the UK.. he is chief scout at the moment.. but in 1910 the chief of Scouts formed what is now known as “GirlGuiding”. The name Guides was chosen from Baden-Powell’s military background, “Guides” had operated in the north-west frontier in India, their main task was to go on hazardous expeditions. I am doing my own expedition and raising funds for GirlGuiding and raise awareness of what this amazing organisation does. Girlguiding Scotland is more than an organization it's a community dedicated to empowering young women through structured activities, leadership opportunities, and a supportive environment. Run by volunteers like myself, it aims to build confidence, resilience, and a sense of camaraderie among girls from all walks of life.
It's a lot of money to raise.. we estimate it will be somewhere in the region of 2000 GBP per girl and there are 14 guides.. although not all of them may be able to go for the dates we plan.. this is why I chose this amount of 28,000 to raise. And Mont. Blanc is nowhere near on the scale of Nims Purja’s 14 peaks.. but it is important that I am take on the 14 peaks mentality: anything is possible.. this is my own version of “project possible” I don't know I will even come close.. but.. Every donation, no matter the size means the world to me and the girls. Let's show these young people that their dreams have no limits, that their community - and the climbing community- believes in them, and that the world is theirs to explore. 💪

IN MEMORY of my dad Mark Mullin who raised me to believe I had no limits- he passed in 2020, his generous spirit as a man who helped countless people just because they needed it and raised funds for various organisations most memorably with his biking trips in Africa.
