Story

Yes, I’m definitely having a mid life crisis! 🤯

Yes, this is one of the stupidest decisions I’ve ever made…. 😵‍💫

Yes, I’m late to the party and will have just over 4 months to prepare… 🤦🏼

But on 26 April 2026 I'm running the London Marathon for Hospice UK.

I’ll be running the marathon in memory of my hero, my Grandad Brian Robinson. 💕

My Grandad received dedicated hospice care at home in his final weeks with us and the staff that supported both him and my Grandma were the kindest, most caring, skilled professionals that we could have wished for.

They listened, smiled, cared and comforted in some of the darkest moments for my Grandma as my Grandad sadly deteriorated.

We put our trust into them to help our family know when it would be time for us to say goodbye to him.

In the early hours on the 15th of January 2019, thanks to their expertise, they made the call to inform us that we needed to get to the house to say Goodbye.

Thanks to them my Grandad passed away surrounded by his loving wife Betty, his four children, his seven grandchildren and his sons in law.

We all made it in time to be there. 💕

My Grandad deserved so much more in his final years, he retired from a lifetime of farming, a lifetime of early mornings and late nights, a lifetime of no days off and very little holidays.

He was excited to retire and even downsized to a house with a bus stop outside so that he could go on a few adventures.

Sadly a few months after retiring he was diagnosed with cancer.

He never really got the adventures he deserved and that has always really bothered me. Six years on I still struggle to talk about my Grandad the way I want to because I’m still so angry about the way he left us and the adventures he missed.

It wasn’t fair.

So that’s how I’m tackling this stupid challenge.

One last adventure for me and my Grandad together, he’ll be there running with me and I’ll be proudly running/jogging/walking/crawling with his photo.

I understand that times are tough for a lot of people, but if you do want to sponsor an unfit, middle aged man with basically no knees and a love for Guinness, to complete the 26 mile London Marathon I’d appreciate it.

I’m running for Brian Robinson, my hero and for any of my friends who also had someone who benefited from the heroes of Hospice Care.

Nice one ☝️
