Story
We have always wanted to visit the Great Wall of China, and in September 2027 we are finally taking on the challenge together. Rather than simply ticking off a bucket-list adventure, we want to make every step count by raising £7,000 for the brilliant Martlets Hospice.
Martlets is a cause very close to our hearts. We lived near the hospice for many years, and Nick’s mum also gave her time there as a volunteer. We have seen the place Martlets holds in our local community, which makes this feel like a particularly meaningful challenge for us both.
Martlets provides free, essential care and support for people affected by life-limiting illness across Brighton and Hove and the surrounding area. Much of that care is provided in people’s own homes, helping patients and those closest to them make the most of the time they have together. Their teams also offer inpatient care, pain and symptom management, physiotherapy, counselling and social activities.
This care is free for patients and families, but it is not free to provide. Martlets relies heavily on the generosity of local people, businesses and fundraisers to keep its vital services going.
We will be training hard, tackling plenty of hills and, hopefully, arriving at the Great Wall ready for the challenge. Every donation, whatever the amount, will help us reach our target and support Martlets to continue being there for local families when they need it most.
Thank you so much for supporting us. It really will make every mile, blister and steep Great Wall step worthwhile.
