Running for Phil: Honouring a Life, Fueling Hope
This Sunday we run the New York Marathon to honour Phil. Phil was just 28 when he was diagnosed with a Rhabdomyosarcoma, a rare form of Sarcoma which is a cancer of the soft tissue and bone and can affect people at any age.
Phil was in the prime of his life; fit, healthy and living life to its fullest. The diagnosis, treatment and end of care was truly brutal and took a massive toll on Phil and his family. There was one constant through, Phil’s enormous optimism and will to live.
Phil loved New York and lived there for over two years. It is for this reason that we run, to honour our brother and friend Phil, to raise awareness and funds for this brutal and indiscriminate cancer and to live life and create new and good memories.
Why Sarcoma UK?
Sarcoma UK help fund vital research, offer support for anyone affected by sarcoma cancer, and campaign for better treatments. For every pound donated, 70p is invested directly into research, information/support, and education about sarcoma. Through this charity both Irish and UK citizens benefit enormously.
They provide practical support to families, including assistance with transportation, meals, and other daily needs during treatment. This support is crucial for families who may be struggling financially while caring for a loved one with sarcoma.
