Running for Phil: Honoring a Life, Fueling Hope
Phil was 28 when his life took an unimaginable turn. After living in New York and London, he'd just landed a dream job in in Hong Kong. But the week before his move, he noticed swelling in his leg. It turned out to be an aggressive form of sarcoma, a rare cancer that strikes the bones and soft tissue.
Phil fought with extraordinary courage through chemotherapy and treatment in London. He outlived his prognosis, but after 14 grueling months, we lost him. He was young, vibrant, and had so much ahead of him. His suffering was immense, but tragically, many children face this same disease, often with few resources.
That's why Phil's brother, sister, close friends, and I are running the 2025 New York City Marathon in his memory. We're raising funds for Sarcoma UK, a charity dedicated to supporting those affected by this devastating cancer.
Why Sarcoma UK?
Sarcoma UK is the only national charity in the UK focusing on all types of sarcoma. They fund vital research, offer support for anyone affected by sarcoma cancer, and campaign for better treatments. For every pound donated, 70p is invested directly into research, information/support, and education about sarcoma.
They provide practical support to families, including assistance with transportation, meals, and other daily needs during treatment. This support is crucial for families who may be struggling financially while caring for a loved one with sarcoma.
