Nicki and Michelle's fundraiser for Leeds Hospitals Charity

adidas Manchester Marathon 2025 · 27 April 2025 ·
Nicki and Michelle are excited to be running the Manchester Marathon on 27 April to raise awareness of organ donation and to raise funds for the Leeds Transplant Team. This incredible team supports transplant recipients helping them lead active, fulfilling lives through sports and community activities.
Nicki’s story:
This year marks a special milestone for Nicki, who had a successful liver transplant 20 years ago. At the age of 46, her liver failed, and just a day after going on the transplant register, she received the gift of life. Nicki has since represented Team Leeds in the British Transplant Games as well as representing Great Britain at the European and World Games showcasing her resilience and gratitude. To give back to the team that supported her, Nicki is running the marathon with her friend Michelle, who she affectionately calls her "marathon minder."
Michelle’s story:
Michelle is running not only to support her friend but also in memory of her sister-in-law, who was also called Michelle. Michelle sadly passed away in 2017 whilst on the transplant register for a second time at the age of 39. She was cared for by the Leeds Transplant Team and had a list of things she hoped to achieve after her second transplant, which included running a marathon. Although time ran out for Michelle, we know that she will be with us every step of the way.
Donations:
Your donations will help provide new equipment, kits, and registration fees for the Leeds Adult Transplant Team, ensuring that these amazing athletes can continue to thrive and inspire others. Every step we take in this marathon is dedicated to the resilience and courage of transplant recipients.
Our marathon is never going to be about the time that we finish but it’s a way of saying thank you to Nicki’s donor and to celebrate the second chance she has been given.
Please join us on this journey. Whether it’s a small donation or sharing our page, every bit helps. Together, we can make a lasting impact!
