Nicki Lygo is raising money for Duchenne UK

Thames Path Ultra Challenge 2025 · 13 September 2025 to 14 September 2025 ·

As the leading Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) charity in the UK, we want to find effective treatments for DMD and end its devastating impact. We’re going further than anyone has before, and we’re doing it faster, because this generation of people living with DMD can’t wait.

Story

There has been a bit of a hiatus in my fundraising for Duchenne as I have had some health challenges to deal with, the most significant of which is slowly causing my kidneys to fail.

As a result, this 50km night walk is a huge challenge for me. I would love some encouragement along the way and will do everything I can to get to the end of the walk. I'm extremely nervous but determined to continue to help Tom and the other boys out there with Duchenne.

Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) is a devastating muscle-wasting disease. It is the most common and severe form of muscular dystrophy. Diagnosed in childhood, it mainly affects boys. Started by families affected by the disease, Duchenne UK is the leading DMD charity in the UK: connecting the best researchers with industry, the NHS and families to advance and accelerate every stage of drug development. Together, we will end Duchenne.
