Llandudno Standard Triathlon · 29 September 2024
In February 2020 my Mum's long battle with her physical and mental health ended peacefully in St David's Hospice at the foot of the Great Orme, a special place to our family beginning from my Grandparent's honeymoon there. My Mum spent years enduring the pain of Multiple Sclerosis along with other physical and mental health issues including the amputation of her leg following a blood clot in 2016. My Mum taught us strength, compassion and justice. At my very core I am who I am because of the lessons from my Mum and the journey we shared, however hard at times.
I am completing this challenge to raise money for St David's Hospice who in the last few days of my Mum's life took care of her and relieved me from the palliative care, allowing me to have those last moments just being there with her. When my Mum passed, a nurse in the hospice placed a daffodil in her hands, this small yet beautiful gesture will stay with me forever, and remind me of the fragility and strength, grief and love, tragedy and beauty of life.
For my Mum I am doing the Llandudno Standard Triathlon on the 29th of September. The Llandudno Standard is a 1500m sea swim, 34.75km bike and 9.4km run. This is one of three triathlons I am completing this year, in memory of three incredible people I lost that year.
To Mum, I hope I'm still making you proud. When this gets tough I'll draw on the resilience you've gifted me to get me through. 'Love you to the moon and back' - 'and back again' xxx
