Story
Most of us reading this will be fortunate enough to have a safe and secure accommodation, a place we call home in which we retreat to everyday. However not everyone in the UK is as fortunate as this and as the housing emergency escalates, more people face the reality of homelessness.
Everyday I come into contact with people who have nowhere to call home, and witnesses the devastating effects of people living on the streets being unable to sustain a healthy quality life. These past two years I’ve seen first hand the impact of the rise of the private rent sector, inflation of basic necessities and a lack of social housing to support those most at risk.
Whilst it is easy to separate ourselves from those who face homelessness and have the assumption that it’s the Government’s responsibility to address such issues I believe we can all do a little bit to help. Witnessing the generosity of those around me I am reminded that small acts of service can go a long way and have long lasting impacts of those most in need.
Thats why on the 20th April I will be abseiling down the Owen Building in Sheffield in attempts to raise money for Shelter, an organisation dedicated to defending the rights of a safe home and responding to the current housing crisis.
Any donation big or small is greatly appreciated and will go to a great cause.
Lots of love,
Nicolle
