Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

On Saturday the 13th July I will be competing in the Black Diamond Yr Wyddfa/Snowdon24 Ultra trail. The aim is to complete as many laps up and down Yr Wyddfa/Snowdon as you can in a 24 hr period. The following day on Sunday 14th July, once I have finished I will be starting the Xterra Snowdonia Trail Marathon Eryri, with the aim to complete the 27.3 miles.

I finished the 24 hour event last year in 21 hours and 45 minutes, completing 7 laps which was approximately 70 miles and finishing 8th in the solo category. Hands down the toughest, but most enjoyable event I had ever done.

This year I'm back at it but with a twist. The aim is to hopefully pace myself well enough to be able to complete another 7 laps, but leave myself enough time to be able to start the Trail marathon at about 8.30am. From what I've been told, this hasn't been attempted by anyone else at the time of typing, so maybe I'm about to start up a new challenge!! anyone want to join me? 🤣

Why am I doing this you ask? Well, sadly I lost my dad on the 6th June 2023 and this monster of a challenge is for him!

20+ years ago my dad had meningitis (Meningococcal Septiceamia). Over the years this lead to many health issues, with the main one being the deterioration of his kidneys which resulted in 5+ years on dialysis. My dad went through a lot during this period with countless trips to the Royal Liverpool hospital due to infections, and ulcers etc. In September 2016 I donated a kidney to my dad via the Paired Exchange programme due to being incompatible with him for a direct transplant, in the hope it would solve his problems. Unfortunately this wasn't the case and his kidney eventually failed which put him onto the national transplant list. Health issues again made this tough and he ended up with an infection that caused damage to his hip with a replacement being the only option as he was close to being unable to walk. This also had to happen before he could be considered for another kidney, as walking was a big part of the recovery process. Eventually once recovered, a kidney donor was found and he had a successful operation, and the kidney took and started to fully function.

At long last, things seemed to be going in the right direction for him and he was able to start enjoying life again. It wasn't easy and there were still issues that he had to deal with along the way, but it was all positive. Just as you felt things were getting better, things started to deteriorate and health issues again reared their head, more infections and trips to the hospital came and they seemed to be getting more frequent, which brings us to the 6th of June 2023, when i suddenly lost my dad to sepsis. Another infection!

There are many charities that I would love to raise money for that are for causes which affected my dad in addition to the 2 I have mentioned above, but the Kidney Charity is the one that is closest to me and my dad as this has had the biggest effect on both of us at the same time.

I have had a very long time to get something setup, but for some reason have just not got round to it, so here I'am 52 days before the event takes place setting up a sponsorship page. #lastminute.com 🤦‍♂️😂

Just like this running challenge, the amount i'd love to raise in 52 days is also a bit of a monster challenge, but we can only try as I will on the 13th and 14th July. Any amount you can spare is very much appreciated and will go to a very worthwhile charity. One that means a lot to me and my dad.

(This is for you dad, I'm missing you like crazy and to be honest still processing not having you here anymore. Hope to do you proud, raise a little money and survive and actually complete this monster challenge which i know you would be shaking you head at and thinking i'm an idiot)🤣

Love ya Dad.💖💖 and thank you in advance for any donations. XX
