Story
We believe that healthcare is a human right.
The passage of national, improved Medicare For All would guarantee universal, comprehensive health coverage to all Arlington residents -- without copays, deductibles, premiums, or out-of-pocket costs. It would also eliminate the need for employer-sponsored health insurance, saving the Arlington county government more than $40 million per year and relieving local businesses of the burden of providing health insurance to employees.
While we fight locally and nationally for Medicare For All, our workgroup in the DSA NoVA Branch also recognizes the importance of supporting the current needs of our local community - particularly at this time when drastic cuts to Medicaid and Medicare threaten the most vulnerable in our community.
This is why we urge you to join us in support of the Arlington Free Clinic.
Arlington Free Clinic (AFC) advances health equity by providing comprehensive, whole-person healthcare to our neighbors who would otherwise lack access. Established in 1994, AFC continues to be Arlington’s only provider of comprehensive healthcare services for adults living with a low income and without health insurance. Every year, with the help of over 450 volunteers and 45 full/part-time staff, AFC provides services to approximately 1,500 of our community’s most vulnerable residents.
As our region suffers under the increasing impacts of job losses and cuts to Medicare and Medicaid, the AFC will be more and more important as part of our social safety net.
