This October, I’m taking part in My Way to 22k to support SUDEP Action and help raise awareness of epilepsy and SUDEP. I’ve chosen to take on 22k my way, whether that’s running, walking, cycling, swimming, wheeling or trying something completely different. By taking part and fundraising, I’m helping support vital research, specialist services and work to prevent epilepsy-related deaths.

As most of you know, on 24th July 2024, our world changed forever when we lost our beautiful Louie to SUDEP. It would be his 22nd birthday on 22nd September so without him here to celebrate with, I would like to do this as a way of honouring his birthday 💛

There are no words to truly describe the devastation of losing your child, and the pain of knowing that SUDEP can happen suddenly and without warning is something our family will carry with us forever.

Since losing Louie, I’ve wanted to find a way to turn some of that heartbreak into something positive — to help raise awareness of SUDEP and, hopefully, help support research and the incredible work being done to understand it and prevent more lives from being lost.

I would love to raise money for this charity in Louie’s memory. Every donation, no matter how big or small, could help contribute towards vital research, awareness, education and support for families affected by SUDEP.

If raising awareness or supporting research could potentially help prevent another family from experiencing the unimaginable pain of losing their loved one, then that would mean more to me than I could ever put into words.

We can’t bring our Louie back, and nothing will ever change the fact that he should still be here. But if we can help make a difference for another family, and perhaps prevent another parent from having to live through the heartbreak that we now know all too well, then Louie’s life can continue to make a difference.
