Story
This May, I am taking on the Hackney Half Marathon for Furnishing Futures - a wonderful, small charity that transforms empty social housing into fully furnished homes for women and children escaping domestic abuse.
Statistics show that less than 2% of social housing comes furnished and that can mean no flooring, no beds, no curtains, and no basic furniture.
This potentially leaves victims escaping domestic abuse to worry about how they will finance starting anew, with some even feeling that they have no choice but to return to an unsafe environment to meet their children’s and their basic needs.
At Furnishing Futures, they're dedicated to changing that. Their team creates safe, healing homes using as-new furniture from the interiors industry that would otherwise go to waste. On top of this, they provide services to ensure survivors feel supported and listened to during a critical time in their journey to recovery.
I’m aiming to raise £300, enough to cover the essential items a family needs when starting again.
This can give you an idea what your donation could go towards:
£50 – a wellbeing kit for a woman beginning again
£100 – Baby & Children’s Bundle
£150 – Kitchen Essentials Bundle
£300 – Full Home Bundle
Thank you for your support – every penny raised will help create a safe, comfortable, healing home for a family who needs it.
