A huge big thank you to everyone who has donated to our fundraiser. Th total is currently over £2000! Double our original target.
We are so grateful for all the support of many friends and family members. And we had such a good time on the walk, despite the mix of weather that we experienced - sunshine, as well as our share of torrential rain and wind . The grandkids didn't seem to mind the weather as they manoeuvred their scooters around the route and in among Glasgow's Saturday shoppers!
17 of us set out from Glasgow Green on Saturday morning, most of us to walk 5k around the streets of central Glasgow, while Andrew set off for the West End of the city and beyond to complete an impressive 20k.
We had two aims in organising ourselves for the walk. Firstly, to raise much needed funds for the MS Society. Every penny we have raised, thanks to our supporters, will go towards research into the insidious illness that is Multiple Sclerosis; and to supporting the thousands worldwide whose lives are impacted by the disease.
Our second objective was to support Owen in the challenge of the walk and to do this around the time of his 70th birthday. He more than rose to the challenge walking the entire 5k in all sorts of weather and contending, not only with the issues caused by MS, but with a flare up of sciatica. We had borrowed a wheelchair in case he was unable to complete the route under hos own steam but he treated it with some disdain and determinedly pushed the chair around the course! It was a very proud moment when our Team was cheered across the finish line with Owen leading the way!
Wow! thanks to everyone who has helped us overtake our target , with still a week to got until the walk. We really appreciate your generosity.
Despite Owen's recent setback, he is determined to complete the route, and with 14 family and extended family there to give a hand, I am sure he will succeed. We may not be the fastest team at finishing ( in fact, Andrew may even be completing his 20k route before we all make it over the finish line!) but that won't matter. We are delighted to be helping Owen mark his 70the birthday in this way and to be raising funds in support of the Multiple Sclerosis Society. Thanks again to all who have donated so generously.
To mark Owen's significant birthday (70!) Team Jones will be taking part in the MS sponsored walk in Glasgow on Saturday 13 September. At the last count, 13 members of the family - including our big "kids" and grandkids will be taking part! Most of us will be walking 5k (plenty of us to support Owen and to carry him over the finishing line if need be!) but Andrew has signed up for the 20k event!T
We are grateful for any donation you can give which will go to the MS Society to support the approximately 15,000 people living in Scotland with this illness. It will also fund research into life-changing treatments. MS is an unpredictable and incurable condition that affects people's nervous systems. It can attack suddenly or progress steadily, bringing a range of symptoms which can include pain, sight loss, incontinence, fatigue and mobility problems. No-one with MS can be sure when or how it will affect them next.
Some may remember that not so long ago, Owen ran the 154 k of the West Highland Way but MS has impacted to the extent that this 5k walk is now a challenge. Just one of the ways that he and others feel the effects of this illness.
Your donations will go towards life-changing MS research. Thank you so much for your generosity!
