Cambodia 2025: StepStone Schools Initiative

StepStone has been working in partnership with international NGO, United World Schools "UWS", since 2022 with the goal to provide a transformative education programme to support over a thousand out of school children into school.
The StepStone School Initiative has already seen StepStone and UWS establish formal education programmes in Aglung Community, central Nepal (2023) and in Ambalamoa Community, Madagascar (2024). Together, we're building schools, training teachers, providing learning resources and building the capacity of each community to enable the schools to thrive for generations to come.
This March, I will join a group of StepStone colleagues as we continue our impactful partnership with UWS to transform lives through education. Our focus this year is Phum Chuay in Ratanakiri, Cambodia, a community striving to overcome challenges like limited literacy, economic migration, and climate change.

As some of you may know, this journey is of particular personal importance to me as I seek to honor my father's educational legacy. Before the Cambodian genocide, he was a Professor of Literature at Lycée Sisowath in Phnom Penh and became Head Professor at Lycée Battambang. My father was a great man.
My mother studied at the Faculty de Pedagogy in Phnom Penh over 50 years ago and was a teacher in Kampong Cham.
They met as teachers at a refugee camp in Thailand before coming to the United States in 1981.
Education was always made a priority in my life. I am so grateful to be able to help other koun khmer have opportunities to make education a priority in theirs.
