Story
My son Zak tragically died on 12th July 2020 while in psychiatric care. He was only 28 years old.
Cycling was an interest Zak and I shared, along with a love of the outdoors, caring for animals especially our dog Albert, walking and listening to music. On the afternoon he died we were going on a bike ride which was sadly not to be.
Cycling has helped me to cope with living alongside grief. It has provided structure, purpose and a sense of connection with Zak, a source of healing and support during difficult times.
In June 2025 and 2026 I undertook bike tours to France with a group of friends. I was anxious and had many sleepless nights but overcame them to enjoy the challenge.
On Sunday 13th September 2026 I will be cycling the London to Brighton Cycle Ride in memory of Zak and for every young person living with mental illness who needs help, understanding and hope. My challenge is to cycle the iconic 55-mile ride from Clapham Common to Brighton Seafront, taking on Ditchling Beacon, a mile-long climb to the top of the South Downs.
Please sponsor me to raise money for Adam’s Light.
Adam's Light is a UK-based charity dedicated to the prevention of suicide in young people under 30. Founded by my friend, Lauren Carvalho, in memory of her 19-year-old son Adam, the charity breaks the stigma surrounding mental health by delivering age-appropriate workshops and advocacy to schools, colleges, and community groups.
