Story
Following completion of my 4:24 Ultra Marathon Challenge back in April 2021 (running 4 miles every hour, on the hour, for 24hrs) I promised my family I wouldn't put myself through an Ultra again - so I'm not !
However, in an ambition to create another suitably challenging event I have conjured up this beauty - to run an ever increasing mile each day, starting on 28 June 2023 and finishing on 23 July 2023 - this represents the period that Dad knowingly had Pancreatic Cancer; from diagnosis to his passing some 26 days later.
To give that context: That is 1 mile on Day one, 2 miles on day 2................24 miles on day 24, 25 miles on day 25 and completing with a full marathon, 26.2 miles on day 26 - some 351 miles in total (15 miles in week one, 63 miles in week 2, 112 miles in week 3 and 161 miles in week 4).
It’s unacceptable that more than half of people diagnosed with pancreatic cancer die within 3 months; Dads time was even shorter. Survival rates have improved enormously for most cancers, yet for pancreatic cancer, this is not the case.
Pancreatic Cancer UK is dedicated to taking on this injustice using every possible means. They're supporting people with pancreatic cancer now, campaigning, and funding vital research to transform the future. Help them to make the breakthroughs that people with pancreatic cancer so desperately need.
Any amount you are able to spare helps in the fight agains this horrible disease - thank you.
