On 19 January I’m boxing Steve Mayes at Midnight Mayhem. Three rounds. One opponent who, as far as I can tell, has no intention of making it easy.

I’m doing it for Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity (The same charity as Steve). The hospital treats children with the rarest and most complex conditions in the country, and the charity funds the research, equipment and family accommodation the NHS budget doesn’t stretch to.

Six months of training starts now. Early mornings, a diet I’m not looking forward to, and a fairly humbling amount of work to get from where I am to fight-ready. That part’s on me.
