Story
This summer I’m taking on two open-water swimming challenges, both taking me further than I've ever swum before — and all in aid of Level Water, a charity providing one-to-one swimming lessons for children with disabilities. These lessons are joyful, empowering, and completely life-changing.
I've been swimming since before I can remember--it was my first sport and something that had always filled me with confidence. Moving into open water a few years ago challenged me in new ways, reminding me that I can still swim even when I can’t see what’s beneath the surface, when the water turns choppy, and when something—hopefully just a reed or strand of seaweed—brushes against my legs!!
So, the challenges:
First, a 24hr Wild Swim Relay. As a solo entrant, this will be my longest swim yet and a huge physical and mental challenge.
Later, I’ll take on the Hurly Burly 10km cold-water swim up the Mawddach estuary near Barmouth. With a strong incoming tide, this is one of the fastest 10km open-water swim events in the UK!
Both have beautiful scenery, cold water, and hundreds of swimmers taking on something epic together.
Swimming for children with disabilities is the biggest unmet need in sport. The water takes your weight; it’s a true leveller. It relieves pain and offers freedom and independence that many of our children never experience elsewhere.
Every £15 raised funds a lesson.
If you can, please sponsor me – your support will help change a child's life.
