Story
On the 4th of June we are lycraing up and taking to the roads. Specifically the 500km of roads between Greenwich Park and the Eiffel Tower - the idea is to raise money for the blood cancer charity, Cure Leukaemia.
Every 27 seconds someone across the globe is diganosed with a form of blood cancer. Research is transforming Leukaemia from an often fatal diagnosis to something many people can survive, but continued funding is what makes new treatments possible. Cure Leukaemia funds specialist research nurses across the UK. These nurses connect patients with pioneering clinical trials, giving them access to the latest treatments.
These trials can save lives but also accelerate progress towards curing all forms of the disease.
The plan is one day to traverse the familiar potholes of Kent avoiding punctures, and then three days of graft on the wrong side of the road fuelled by baguettes (maybe a little red wine to keep the legs lubricated)
In my mind Paris was not that far from Calais, but turns out it's about 350km by bike, which is an alarming 17 and a half times as far as my occasional lunch ride (which is pretty tiring in itself). Quite a significant amount of prep work on the indoor bike and Peloton is required.
PwC and Barclays will hopefully generously be providing matched fundraising up to £1,000 each so any donations you can contribute will be extremely efficient.
Thanks for your support
