Fundraising for Bournemouth Town Pastors

We work alongside people through times of crisis practically building hope and resilience. We support Food Banks in Poole, Christchurch, Southbourne, Wimborne and Blandford. We specialise in supporting those affected by homelessness, food poverty, debt, addiction and those in lone parent families.

Story

Please make a donation which will pass from the Faithworks charity to the Town Pastors with whom I am a volunteer.

The Bournemouth Town Pastors are an independent group of Christian volunteers from a variety of local churches who provide a valuable service, principally directed to support people engaging in the night time economy, in a town with a large seasonal tourist population looking to go out and enjoy themselves and a university student population of more than 18, 000, for many of whom, Bournemouth will be their first experience of ‘clubbing’ and nightlife.

We assist anyone in any kind of need without judgement with the simple objective of keeping people safe, looking out for those who are separated from friends, out alone, are the worse for wear, lost, lonely, confused, unwell or are otherwise distressed or vulnerable. We also respond to calls on the two-way radio we carry which links us to nightclub doormen, police, paramedics and CCTV.

We only patrol as mixed male/female pastor teams and wear a distinctive uniform with caps and clearly marked light blue hi-vis jackets.

We do not actively evangelise but are always ready to reply, and engage on matters of faith if asked, particularly as to why we do what we do as volunteers, and can offer introductory Christian booklets.

In terms of practical help, we carry a range of items including a defibrillator and more basic first aid kit, foil blankets, water, flip flops, and information on local services as well as a power pack to give mobiles a boost if they’ve gone flat. to contact friends/family for help

We can wait with people until they are ready to move on or until further help arrives. We contact emergency services including paramedics should they be required.

The Bournemouth Town Pastors provide a kindly, wide-ranging, complementary service in the town centre, in a role not covered by the police, door staff, council or medical emergency services, that helps keep people safe.
