There are 14.7million people – that’s more than one in six – in the UK living with a neurological condition. Here at the country's leading neurological centre, we’re passionate about supporting the hospital to help improve the lives of patients through treatment and research.

Story

The National Brain Appeal is a charity that raises funds to support world leading neurological care, research and treatment. Enabling research that improves understanding of neurological and neuromuscular disorders and support of specialist staff training, improving the expertise available to treat conditions such as Guillain-Barre.

In 2019 my mum was admitted into hospital having lost coordination and experiencing double vision. She was diagnosed with Guillain-Barre, a rare autoimmune disorder, where the immune system attacks the nerves. She was turned away repeatedly by the GP and A&E in the days before her diagnosis, who told her it was nothing to worry about. From this experience I know first hand how important the work of the National Brain Appeal is in funding research into disorders such as GBS and supporting the fundamental work of consultant Neurologists. Increased awareness of GBS is crucial for a rapid response, which can make a huge difference in reducing the severity of its symptoms and shortening recovery time. The road to recovery is slow and The National Brain Appeal's work is invaluable in ensuring that patients receive the best possible support during their recovery.

Your donation will help the National Brain Appeal to improve the outcome and quality of life for the millions of people affected by neurological conditions.

While I love running, this is by far the hardest challenge I have taken on to date. I would be so grateful for any support to spur me on in my training and on the day!
