On Sunday 23rd June, a team of 10 from the Permanently Unique Group Head Office will leave the safety of our desks and attempt to summit and descend the 3 highest peaks in each of Scotland, England and Wales all within 24 hours. We will hike nearly the equivalent of a marathon whilst facing logistical challenges and whatever the British weather will throw at us.
The clock will start at Ben Nevis, which will be climbed on Sunday evening, before driving onwards to England. Scafell Pike will be the second mountain to be negotiated in the early hours of Monday morning, followed by the final drive into North Wales where we will take on Snowdon and hopefully cross the finish line in less than 24 hours.
The challenge will be in support of Hospitality Helps, an initiative set up by The Tim Bacon Foundation, who have chosen Prevent Breast Cancer as their first charity to support. Tim was a key figure in the Manchester restaurant scene; always vibrant, forever inspiring and generous of mind and spirit. He left his unique mark on friends, employees and customers alike. Following Tim’s passing in April 2016, the foundation was formed by his friend and business partner Jeremy Roberts to ensure that Tim’s inspiring journey was not forgotten and to recognise his achievements, continue his legacy and to echo his legendary spirit of generosity.
Prevent Breast Cancer is a national charity with its roots in Manchester which is doing incredibly important work to better understand how breast cancer develops and what we can do to stop it from occurring. The figures are stark: over 55,000 women are diagnosed a year, of whom thousands are younger than 50 – the age at which mammogram screening begins. The hospitality sector relies on a young workforce, many of whom are women, and it’s therefore doubly important that we support this charity in its life-saving work. Prevent Breast Cancer is currently fundraising to build a new National Breast Imaging Academy which will be based in Manchester and which will train the next generation of breast imaging specialists across the UK.
