Rachel's WWF-UK Isle of Wight Challenge

WWF Isle of Wight Challenge 2025 · 8 April 2025 to 10 April 2025 ·
OUR WORLD needs our help!
WWF is at the heart of global efforts to address the world’s most important environmental challenges: safeguarding the natural world, tackling climate change and enabling people to use only their fair share of natural resources. Together we can build a future where people and nature thrive.
Your support will help WWF to halt this decline and address climate change and support this important project:
Seagrass Ocean Rescue is one of WWF-UK’s ambitious plans to help the UK restore 15% of seagrass habitats by 2030. We are developing a mechanised restoration approach that will enable future restoration efforts to dramatically upscale future plantings. In the meantime, we are working to plant up to 18 hectares of seagrass by next year and this trip will be a big part of that.
Globally, seagrass captures carbon up to 35 times faster than tropical rainforests, accounting for 10-18% of total ocean carbon storage despite covering less than 0.1% of the seafloor. Seagrass can also help protect our coast from damaging storms and erosion through dampening the force of waves and is very effective at removing pollutants from our waters.
The Isle of Wight challenge is happening on 8, 9 & 10 April. Over these days, I will be visiting the sites where seagrass is being planted by sea kayaking for a few hours and then hiking along windy coastal, undulating paths over 18 miles. It will be a tiring few days but worth it to see this amazing work in person!!
Please support this important work to help to reverse climate change!
