Story
I'm supporting Nerve Tumours UK because their mission means a great deal to me. They provide crucial support to people living with the Neurofibromatoses- the conditons that cause nerve tumours.
I have recently been diagnosed with neurofibromatosis type 2 (NF2).
This can be a genetic condition that causes tumours to grow along the nerves. The tumours are usually non-cancerous (benign) but may cause a range of symptoms.
Almost everyone with NF2 develops tumours along the nerves responsible for hearing and balance. These usually cause symptoms such as:
● hearing loss that gradually gets worse over time
● hearing ringing or buzzing in the ears (tinnitus)
● balance problems – particularly when moving in the dark or walking on uneven ground
● muscle spasms
● blackouts
● blurred vision or temporary blindness
● nausea
● migraines
I also have other tumours inside the brain and spinal cord, along the nerves to the arms and legs. These can lead to symptoms such as weakness in the arms and legs, and persistent headaches.
I'm raising money for Nerve Tumour UK because they were there when no one else was. GP (at the time) was little to no help so it was Nerve Tumour UK who i turned to and it was them that helped, supported and adviced me. It Nerve Tumour UK who contact the specialist clinic and nurse who deal with NF2 for my region no one else. This is way I would like to do something for them so they can still be here to help others in the future.
So do you want to join me in supporting a good cause?
